Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 95

April 5;      Luke 1:38;       45/260(IV);        ‘According To Your Word’

Luke 1:38 Then Mary said, "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.

Mary, a teenage woman was selected by the Lord to be the mother of Jesus Christ.  The angel Gabriel, shared this incredible news with her and after she understood that even though she was a virgin, the power of the Holy Spirit would come upon her and she would conceive the Lord.  The answer to why Mary was to be the mother of Jesus is in this verse.  It was her faith,  We have said this before, Mary was not divine.  There is nothing in the Word of God that says she was divine.  After marrying Joseph and the birth of Jesus, Mary had several other children.  The Gospels do not tell us a great deal about Mary.  She had to be astute at business and since she wasin charge of the wedding feast that Jesus changed the water into wine at.  Her love for Jesus and her commitment to Him was evident in the passages we do have.  Though the Word of God does not tell us, the very fact that she had the courage to be at the crucifixion, implies that Jesus had explained to her what He had to do for the salvation of humanity.  Jesus loved Mary as well.  In the midst of His agony on the cross, Jesus took time to see to it that the Apostle John would care for Mary when Jesus had returned to heaven.  Mary’s commitment to the things of God was seen, as she was one of the 120 in the upper room when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the day of Pentecost.  Only Mary will eternally be the earthly mother of Jesus.  This was what she was called by the Father to do.  She did it well and all generations that accept Jesus will call Mary blessed.
