Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 52

February 21;      Matthew 2:11;       2/260(IV);        ‘Worship Him’

Matthew 2:11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Here are a few truths from the Christmas story that will bless you.  The Gospels of Matthew and Luke cover the birth of Jesus.  In Luke, the shepherds, after being told by an angel, go to the manger where Baby Jesus was born.  This is not the case with the wise men.  Jesus was probably two years old and was living in a house with His parents.  King Herod confirms this, after the wise men are warned in a dream not to return to Herod and tell him where Jesus was.  Herod lied to them and told them he wanted to worship Jesus, when in reality he wanted to kill Him out of his insane jealousy.  This is why Herod gives the order to kill all of the male children in the Bethlehem area tow years and under.  Another vital fact is that Herod, inspired by the devil had no idea who or where Jesus was.  We have said this before, satan is not all knowing, only the Lord is.  If he was all knowing he would have gone immediately to where Jesus was and try to kill Him.   Here is the main point I want to make concerning this chapter.  The wise men went into the house and worshiped Jesus.  They did not worship Mary, as she is not divine.  It is very clear in the Bible, only the Lord receives worship.  Angels do not and humans do not either.  When Peter went into Cornelius’ house in Acts 10, Cornelius fell down to worship Peter, but Peter stopped him.  Often in the Word, when an angel appeared to someone, the person fell down in worship and the angel stopped them also. The Word dispels lies that religion teaches. God’s Word is truth and protects us.
