Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 32

February 1;      Revelation 4:4;       242/260(III);        ‘Twenty Four Elders’

Revelation 4:4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads.

These twenty four elders represent all of the redeemed from the Old Testament and the New Testament.  Remember in the Old Testament people were ‘saved’ by putting their faith and trust in the Messiah who was to come.  When they did this they were counted righteous.  Their salvation looked forward to what Jesus Christ would do.  We in the New Testament, put our faith and trust in the Messiah, Jesus Christ who did come.  We look back at what the Lord Jesus did do.  Many think the twenty four elders were the twelve tribes of Israel and Jesus’ eleven Apostles plus Paul, who took the place of Judas.  That is very possible, but the Word does not tell us this for sure.  Their white robes represents purity.  Obviously this is the case due to their proximity to the Lord Jesus.  Their golden crowns probably represent the victory that they enjoy enthroned near our Lord and Savior Jesus, our Redeemer.  These twenty flour elders primary function based on this chapter seems to be worship.  There are four mighty living creatures, magnificent angels around the throne of the Lord, who never rest but continually give praise, worship and honor to the Lord seated on the throne v6-8).  When the four living creatures do this and it seems they do this all of the time, the twenty four elders fall down, cast their crowns before the Lord and worship Him (v9-11).  Praise and worship will be a huge part or heaven.  When we see Jesus face to face and realize completely His love for us, all we will want to do, as well, is worship Him.
