Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 315

November 11;      Matthew 5:14;      5/260;      ‘The Light of the World’

Matthew 5:14  “You are the light of the world.  A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

The Lord Jesus declares He is the ‘Light of the World’ (John 8:12). His character, conduct, message and power amazed everyone around Him. ‘Light’ refers to illumination and He enlightens our minds and spirits concerning Bible truths. How Jesus lived and what He did, clearly revealed to those desiring to know Him, who the Lord Jesus was. In Matthew 5:14, He  teaches that we, too, are the ‘light of the world’. How so? Since it is clear from scripture that we are to continue the ministry of the Lord Jesus (John 17:18; John 14:12; Acts 1:1; etc.).Our character, conduct, message (sharing scripture) and the power of the Holy Spirit flowing through us, should be reflected the same way it did in Jesus’ life here on  the earth. We are ‘to let our light shine’ just as our Lord did. But in order for this to happen, we must take time to study the gospels and see just how Jesus conducted Himself. Though what the Lord said is vitally important, the way He conducted himself was as well.  Jesus’ holiness, kindness, and compassion in dealing with those who loved Him and opposed Him revealed to everyone that He was different indeed…... He was the ‘light of the world’. The Lord’s intent is that by the way we live our life, it reflects Him and amazes this world as well.  Sharing the Word with others and praying for their needs in the power of the Holy Spirit are sure ways to let our light shine.  In addition, our Christ-like nature combined with a determination to deal kindly and courteously with everyone we encounter, like a light, will draw many people to Jesus. What an honor!
