Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 275

October 2;     I Peter 3:4;      225/260(IV);      ‘The Hidden Person’

1 Peter 3:4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

Christ like conduct is an incredibly powerful witness to people.  In verses 1-4 or chapter 3 of I Peter, wives are encouraged to be submissive (adaptable) to their husbands.  The kindness of a wife, will be observed by the husband, and that conduct will play a huge role in his salvation if he is not born again.  She need not share the Word with the unsaved husband, rather she lives the Word by her behavior.  It will also powerfully solidify a Christian marriage when both spouses live the scriptures.  We reverence Jesus by living a life in line with the Example Jesus gave us.  The wife’s lifestyle, in line with the Word of God always makes an impression on the husband and others as well. Though looking good is important, spiritual beauty is what impacts a husband.  So often in a marriage where, in this case the husband is not yet a believer, the wife wants the husband to change.  A mature Christian wife conducting herself in a chaste, biblical manner, will make a powerful impact on the husband.  When the wife is pitted against the husband and the husband against the wife, neither wins.  When either begin to do things in line with the Word, it then becomes that spouse and Jesus against the other spouse.  The spouse and Jesus will almost certainly win.  An unsaved spouse, when they are brought face to face with a Christian, living in line with the Word will be tremendously impacted by the reality of Jesus living in their mate.  God created marriage and He, not the world knows how it works best. A biblical union is strong.
