Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 265
September 22; Hebrews 11:25; 215/260(IV); ‘Sin’s Passing Pleasure’
Hebrews 11:25 choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,
Baby Moses, when Egypt, fearing the rising population of the Jews, declared that all male babies should be killed, was put in a tiny reed boat by his mother and floated amongst the reeds in a river. The water was where Pharaoh and members of his family bathed. Pharaoh’s daughter saw the tiny boat in the reeds, investigated and took baby from the boat and adopted him. Moses sister was watching and when she saw that Pharaoh’s daughter picked up Moses, she discreetly approached her and asked if the daughter of Pharaoh would need a mother to feed the baby. The daughter of Pharaoh said yes and Moses actual mother was then given the job of feeding her own son, Moses was in line to become the next Pharaoh. He had all of the pleasures of that pagan country before him. Moses defended a Jew and killed a Egyptian fighting with him. Realizing his life was in danger because of his actions, he escaped Midian. There are two very important things this verse teaches. First, the Bible tells us that sin is a pleasure. Sin is alluring and tempts us with the promise of the pleasures we seek. Sin would have to be seductive or else who would pursue it as so many do? As this verse continues, it reveals that sin is a passing pleasure, meaning the pleasure does not last. Our adversary, satan, knows how destructive sin is and does everything he can to lure us into the very thing that will cause untold misery. Demons know exactly in what areas temptation draws you in. If the tempting succeeds the sin will ruin your life.
