Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 260
September 17; Hebrews 6:1; 210/260(IV); ‘Go on to Perfection’
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,
Verses 1 and 2 of chapter six list the six elementary principles of Christ. In essence, the basics. This verse encourages us to continually grow in the Word and go on to perfection or maturity. The goal of the Lord is for each of us to mature spiritually so that we can continue the ministry of Jesus. If you have an interest in anything, you always desire to know it better and get good at doing it. Nothing is more important for us as believers than to know the Word of God and be doers of what we know. The Word covers every aspect of life and a mature Christian, full of the Word, will do well in life, and help those who do not know the Word. It is vital to know the basic principles of the Bible, but that is not where you stop learning. Build on that foundation continually. The Word is fascinating and Jesus said the Word is truth. We have been given the Bible to protect us from information that is not true. We always have truth to judge what we are told or taught. and this will prevent us from building our lives on the unstable, always changing knowledge of the world. Jesus taught that the wise builder built his house on the rock. The rock he built his house on is hearing the Word and doing it. The storms of life could not destroy the house. Jesus went on to say that the foolish builder built his house on the sand. The sand he built his house upon was hearing the Word and not doing it. Since the foolish builder did not do the Word which he heard, the storms of life destroyed his house. Success is based on maturity in the Word.
