Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 259

September 16;     Hebrews 5:7;      209/260(IV);      ‘Not My Will’

Hebrews 5:7 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear,

In the Garden of Gethsemane, the Lord Jesus faced His greatest challenge.  Jesus willingly came to earth to redeem us from our sins and sicknesses.  He did that by baring them upon Himself on the cross.  Luke 2:52 tells us that Jesus grew in wisdom, telling us that He had a human mind that could increase in knowledge and wisdom.  His human mind recoiled at becoming every sin that is, was or ever would be committed by every human being who was and would be.  He had never sinned and the thought of becoming every detestable transgression and be separated from His Father for a period of time, tried to overwhelm Jesus.  Three times He cried out in agony to His Father pleading that if there was another way humanity could be redeemed, please do it.  If that were not possible Jesus told His Father that He would do His Father’s will.  So agonized were His prayers that He sweat blood (Luke 22:44).  Jesus’ worship and prayers were heard by His loving Father, who was well pleased with Jesus.  An angel came and strengthened our Lord.  After Jesus’ third time of prayer, He rose victorious, His mind dealt with and conquered what lay before the Lord. A wise minster said, “The Romans crucified Jesus on Golgatha’s hill, Jesus crucified Himself in Gethsemane.”  The mob arrived and sought Jesus, when He identified Himself, the anointing on Him was so strong that the entire mob fell down.  No one took our Lord’s life, He freely gave it for us.  No one but Jesus could have or would have done this.  Amen.
