Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 256
September 13; Hebrews 2:14; 206/260(IV); ‘Sharing the Same’
Hebrews 2:14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
We know that Jesus Christ, on the cross, took our punishment for our sins and bore our sicknesses as well. Our eternal salvation was at stake and Jesus willing redeemed us from being eternally separated from the Lord and God the Father. There are other, incredibly important things that Jesus did on our behalf. His life was our Example of how to live. He put inside of us His love, the fruit of the Spirit and the Holy Spirit was given to live in our spirit and help us. This verse tells us that Jesus took a flesh and blood body upon Himself, somehow leaving His deity in heaven. As a Man, Jesus experienced everything that we go through. Jesus was tempted, yet never sinned. If the temptations satan tempted Jesus wit caused Him to sin, we would have been eternally lost. Jesus never yielded to those temptations. Jesus experienced hatred and rejection by the religious leaders. Their jealousy of Him caused them to find anyway they could to put Him to death. Jesus knew what it was like to be abandoned. All forsook Jesus when the mob came to arrest Him. Because of His humanity and experiences as a Man, the Bible teaches that He helps us when we are tempted since He knows what those temptations are like. Though Jesus was rejected, He never rejects anyone now who accept Him as their Lord and Savior. His death and resurrection assures us, who have made Him our Lord that we too, when we die physically will immediately be in the presence of the Lord. We need not fear death any longer. We’re free.
