Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 255
Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 255
September 12; Hebrews 1:1; 205/260(IV); ‘In Times Past’
Hebrews 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,
In the past the Lord spoke to Israel through the prophets. He would use dreams, visions, angels, direct speech and a burning bush. The Holy Spirit would use these various ways to communicate His Word to His people. Verse 2 teaches that the Father speaks now through His Son Jesus. In the Gospel of John, written to clearly show that Jesus is God, Jesus differentiated Himself and the prophets. Jesus said statements like ‘the prophets said,’ ‘but now I say.’ Everything the prophets were told in the Old Testament and they shared with Israel relates to Jesus. Verse 2 goes on to say that Jesus is the heir of all things. Our Lord earned that position when He willingly came to earth as a Man, lived a life that is our Example and allowed Himself to be crucified and punished for our sins. Jesus did this so that we could see in the Word what He did for us, believe it and accept Him as our Lord and Savior. The Father’s love and Jesus’ love could not allow us to be eternally separated from Them. Finally verse 2 tells us that Jesus is the One who made the worlds. Everything we see was created by the spoken word of the Lord. The Lord Jesus knew what He wanted to create and spoke it into existence, making something out of nothing. There is a powerful spiritual principle in this. Our Lord created everything as a spirit being. We too are spirit beings and have creative power in what we say. Jesus is our Example and again, He spoke what He wanted, not what He did not want. Everything is Jesus. How blessed to be saved.
