Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 100
April 10; Luke 6:17; 50/260(IV); ‘Standing Ready’
Luke 6:17 And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases,
Verse 12 tells us that the Lord Jesus prayed all night. His ministry was such now that everywhere He went, when the multitude knew where He was, the came to Him. Jesus spent much time in fellowship with His Father. Jesus prayed to nullify the hatred and constant harassment of the religious leaders. Most of all, Jesus prayed, ‘charging’ His spirit for the upcoming ministry each day would bring. The Lord Jesus was humble (Matthew 11), but He also knew who He was spiritually, a Man powerfully anointed by the Holy Spirit to teach and bless those who came to Him. Jesus came down from the mountain and stood ready to teach the people the Word and to minister healing to those in need. The Word teaches that those tormented by demons were healed (v18) and the multitude sought to touch Jesus and they were healed. Jesus’ commitment to pray powerfully charged His spirit to the point that those needing healing just had to touch Him and they were healed (v19). Here, as I so often say, is another example of how Jesus ministered. The narrative is fascinating, but it is also a teaching lesson for us on how to minister the Word and to those in need of healing. Are we willing to spend quality time in prayer fellowshipping with the Father and charging our spirit for ministry opportunities each day brings? Many Christians want to be used by the Lord to teach the Word and to see people healed when they pray for them. Are they willing to spend the necessary time in prayer for this to happen? It is time well spent.
