Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 1

January 1;      Hebrews 7:28;       210/260(III);        ‘Forever Perfected’

Hebrews 7:28 For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.

Under the Law, the tribe of Levi were the priests.  A priest represents God to the people and the people to God.  The priests under the Law were men and had weaknesses just like any other man.  While Moses was up on Mount Sinai receiving the Law, Aaron the High Priest was coerced by the Jews to make a golden calf as an idol.  Then Aaron lied to Moses when Moses came down from the mountain, telling him that he put the gold the people gave him into the furnace and it came out a golden calf.  When the angel told Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist that he and his wife Elizabeth would have a son in their old age, Zechariah did not believe the angel.  Men with weaknesses cannot represent us to the Father eternally.  The oath this verse speaks of is the teaching of the Word that the Lord Jesus Christ is our faithful and eternal High Priest.  Jesus was sinless and on the cross became the sins of humanity.  When Jesus died physically, His spirit went to hell for three days, where Jesus suffered, and was punished for our sins so that we would not have to be.  When Jesus rose from the dead, His spirit reunited with His body.  Jesus body was changed into a resurrection body and Jesus returned to heaven.  Before Jesus sat down at the Father’s right hand, He presented His blood in the heavenly Holy of Holies.  His blood cleansed us forever of our sins.  Jesus now and forever is our High Priest in heaven. He represents us to His Father and His Father to us
