Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 87

March 28;   I Corinthians 10:13;   143/260(I);   ‘No Temptation’

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

The Lord is teaching in this verse that every temptation that entices you to sin is common to all of us.  Neither the devil’s temptations nor our natural bodies are tempted in ways that no one else has ever been tempted in.  The Lord is saying there is nothing unique going on in your life that is not going on in the lives of others.  The verse goes onto say that the Lord is faithful and will not allow us to be tempted in such a manner that we cannot resist it.  We must choose to resist temptation, since we are now born again.  We can do this if we desire to walk in a manner that is biblical.  Jesus was tempted in all ways just as we are and never sinned.  He knows what you go through when you are tempted and will enable you to ‘escape’ from that temptation.  This verse teaches important truths.  Temptation is never from the Lord.  Everyone is tempted.  There are no temptations that have only come upon you.  God has a way to resist and be successful in not giving in to that allurement.  What this verse is also teaching, is that we cannot say that we could not resist the temptation, that it was of such a nature that you had to give in.  That would make the Lord a liar, and He is not.  The Bible says that sin is a pleasure (Hebrews 11:25) for a season and then the destructive nature of sin comes and your life if filled with misery.  Though you may not be there yet, if you love the Lord and are grateful for what He has done for you, desiring to life a committed Christian life, you will be able to live in a manner that brings the Lord glory.  Ask the Lord to help you resist temptations.  According to his verse, He surely will.
