Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 83

March 24;   I Corinthians 6:19;   139/260(I);   ‘Not Our Own’

1 Corintians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

This verse teaches that our bodies are the temple of God and that the Holy Spirit lives in us when we are Born Again.  The Holy Spirit is God, just as much God as God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  The ministry of the Holy Spirit is for today, in this world.  He comes into our spirit to help us in many ways.  He comforts, leads, strengthens, vitalizes our mortal body and much more.  Knowing the Holy Spirit, that God lives in us, should help us to live more holy, since He is right there with us wherever we go and whatever we do and say.  To me, the key to this verse is phrase, “you are not your own.”  Once we become a Christian, we ‘belong’ to the Lord.  He saved us because He loves us, giving us eternal life so that we can be with Him in heaven, forever.  He also saved us so that we could learn of Him right here on earth by His Word and do His work, ministering to others and helping them become Born Again, just like we did.  Why would we become a Christian and keep living and doing what we did before our salvation?  Perhaps some just want the assurance of eternal life.  That is unscriptural.  Learning the Word and doing it, getting involved in a church and doing your part to help others become Christians is the greatest honor we could ever have.  Once you do become active, learning the Word, living as we were created to live and sharing our faith, we quickly forget our old lifestyle.  Since the Lord created us, He knows that the life He has for us is infinitely better than what we had. We are not our own, the Lord loves us and saved us from the mediocre life we had before our salvation.
