Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 80

March 21;   I Corinthians 3:16;   136/260(I);   ‘The Temple of God’

1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

God’s Word teaches that our body is the temple of God.  In John 14:17 and elsewhere, we are told that the Holy Spirit comes to live in our spirit when we are Born Again.  This verse also confirms that.  The Holy Spirit is called the Comforter and the Amplified Bible reveals what that word ‘Comforter’ means, Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby.  Rev. Rick Renner, a Greek scholar tells us that ‘Comforter’ can also mean, Coach or Best Friend.

The Lord is trying to get us to see that we have an incredible treasure inside of us.  He wants us to know this and look to the Holy Spirit for guidance and help.  We are spirit beings, just like the Lord and He leads us by His Holy Spirit in our spirit (Romans 8:14).  In addition to the Holy Spirit coming into our spirit, the Holy Spirit comes upon us when we are baptized in the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit then empowers us to continue the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Jesus’ ministry began after the power of the Holy Spirit came upon Him.  The Lord Jesus did no miracles until the Holy Spirit came upon Him, because Jesus left His deity in heven and became a Man when He came to the earth.  Imagine, we, the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ can and need to flow in supernatural power.  How desperately the world needs this. One more thing, knowing the Holy Spirit, who is God, lives inside of us, should help us live a holy life.  I do not want to sin, knowing the Spirit of God is right here.  It thrills me so to know that we have entrusted with the character and ministry of Jesus, to continue them in His absence.
