Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 282

October 8;   Luke 24:53;   68/260(II);   ‘Where Your Treasure Is’

Luke 24:53 and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.

The Lord Jesus had risen from the dead and appeared to His disciples and others in Jerusalem.  As they spoke about the Lord Jesus, He appeared to them and they were greatly afraid.  Jesus calmed their fears by showing them the scars in His hands and feet.  He encouraged them to hug Him, telling them that a spirit does not have flesh and bones.  The risen Jesus also ate food with them.  This is a preview for us.  We will have a resurrection body, that will be able to travel at the speed of thought.  That body will be able to eat and enjoy food.  That makes an abundance of sense, since we will spend the millennium (a thousand years after the tribulation) and then eternity on a recreated earth.  Jesus tells His disciples and those with them, that He has fulfilled the scriptures which told of His sacrifice on our behalf, redeeming us from sin and sickness.  He went on to tell them that this salvation message was theirs to preach to everyone they could,  Jesus finally tells them that they are to wait in Jerusalem until they are empowered by the Holy Spirit.  That is when their ministry will flourish.  Jesus then led those who saw Him to Bethany, where He blessed all of them and departed, rising up to heaven.  Seeing the risen Lord filled them with great joy.  Their love for Him and commitment to Him was exemplified by their being continually in the temple, praising the Lord.  The disciples saw Jesus and believed, the Bible teaches we are blessed when we do not see Him and still believe.  The Lord Jesus was surely their treasure, the love of the disciples for Jesus was very evident.  Ours should be as well.
