Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 18

January 18;   John 5:25;   73/260(VI);   ‘The Dead Will Hear’

John 5:25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.

What did the Lord Jesus mean when He said the dead will hear His voice.  Will those in the grave literally hear His voice?  Death in the Bible means separation, not termination.  At physical death our spirit separates from our body and our spirit goes right on living.  Spiritual death also means separation.  If we are not Born Again, until we are, our spirit is separated from God.  Because of the sin of Adam, once we reach the age of accountability, when we can understand sin and its consequences, we die spiritually.  If we die physically, without becoming Born Again, our eternal spirit is forever separated from God the Father.  What the Lord Jesus is saying, is that those who are spiritually dead, when they hear the scriptures and believe what they teach about the Lord Jesus, they will be Born Again, made alive spiritually.  Just as death in the Bible means separation from, life means united with.  Our eternal destiny is important beyond words, so the Lord put everything we need to know about the Lord Jesus Christ and salvation in the Book we call the Bible.  You must not put your faith and trust in what someone tells you about Jesus.  They may be well intentioned or they may not be. Often they do not know.  Find out for yourself what life is really all about.  This world has no clue and they have been deceived by the evil one.  Eternal life is based on the Lord Jesus Christ, what His sacrifice for you means to you and your acceptance of Him as your Lord and Savior.  These eternal truths are found in God’s Word.
