Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 136

May 16;   I Timothy 2:1;   192/260(I);   ‘Our Need to Pray’

1 Timothy 2:1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,

Timothy is a Pastor.  Paul is emphasizing the importance of and need to pray.  Since Timothy is a Pastor, Paul wants Timothy to teach his congregation the need to pray as well.  Prayer changes things.  Prayer is Christians asking God the Father to intervene in life’s affairs and help us.  When the Father, through the Lord Jesus created Adam, He gave Adam dominion on the earth.  The Lord and Adam were to work together.  Since Adam had authority, the Father would get involved in the earth, when Adam would talk to Him in prayer and ask Him to do something.  Adam’s relationship with the Lord was to be our example.  Adam forfeited his authority to satan when he sinned.  The Lord Jesus Christ took back that authority from the devil, when He rose from the dead, and gave it back to us.  It is now our responsibility to pray for all men.  For our political leaders, those we work for and with, our family and friends, everyone.  We do not have to agree with those in authority or even like them, but they need our prayers.  Anyone can criticize our leaders, that does nothing.  Prayer opens the door for the Lord to help them, change them  and give them wisdom to govern in a manner that will bless the people.  We have not been saved just so that we can go to heaven.  Thank the Lord we are, but while we are here on earth, we have some very serious work to do.  One vital part of our ministry is to pray for all men that there might be peace, so that it will be easier to share the gospel with everyone who do not know Jesus as of yet.  Learn how to pray biblically.  It soon will become a delight. We need to pray.
