Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 120

April 30;   Philippians 2:9;   176/260(I);   ‘The Highest Name’

Philippians 2:9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,

This verse tells us that God the Father highly exalted Jesus and gave Him a Name which is above every Name.  What did the Lord Jesus do to be given the highest Name in all creation?  The Lord Jesus redeemed us from sin and sickness when He hung on the cross at Calvary.  Redeemed means to ransom, to purchase the freedom of another, to pay a price that you did not owe.  The Lord Jesus is God, divine deity.  But because of our need, He temporarily removed His deity and came to earth as a Man.  He did this because Adam, the first man on the earth, disobeyed God and sinned.  Adam represented all of humanity and relinquished the authority given him to satan.  Mankind was cut off from God the Father.  Spiritually separated with no way back to the Father on our own.  The Father is holy and sin cannot be in His presence.  Sin had to be paid for, humanity cleansed.  The Lord Jesus willingly came here to earth, led a sinless life and of His own free will, became our Substitute, suffering the penalty for our sins and sicknesses so that we would not have to.  The Father watched Jesus’ be humiliated, mocked, beaten and crucified.  The Father saw this gruesome scene and ‘was glad.’  Glad in the sense that by Jesus’ sacrifice humanity could once again have a relationship with the Father.  Jesus’ spirit went to hell paid the price for sin and sickness and He then rose from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit.  We were forgiven by Jesus’ sacrifice.  Now the Father, because of what Jesus did, requires everyone to make Jesus their Lord and Savior.  This is fair, this is generous, this is eternal, this is Bible.
