Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 100

April 9;   2 Corinthians 6:14;   155/260(I);   ‘Unequally Yoked’

2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

First of all, let’s talk about what this verse does not say.  We are not to be critical of or judgmental of the unsaved.  We have no right to look at them through legalistic eyes.  We need to treat them kindly and with the love of Christ, in order to open their hearts to hear the gospel and be saved.  That said, the Lord is warning us, as Christians, not to be involved with them relationally or to ‘hang out’ with them routinely.  Christians have no interest in going to many places the unsaved frequent.  Obviously just this fact alone would cause all kinds of strife concerning what to do.  Those who do not know Jesus also have ‘values’ that Christians do not share about acceptable behavior between a man and woman.  Often attending church becomes a contentious topic.  In cases where a Christian has married a non Christian, and children are born, this opens the door to arguments about how that child is to be raised.  The beliefs of a Christian and unsaved person are usually very different.  A Christian is guided by the light of the Word of God and the non Christian may have very different thoughts on a great many issues.   The Lord wants you to avoid the misery of being unequally yoked.  Perhaps neither of you was born again when you were married and now one of you is.  If the Christian spouse will walk in love, their Christ like character will, like a magnet, draw the unsaved spouse to Jesus. Being with people of like precious faith in a relationship and friendship yields life the way it should be.  Without this, your spirit, alive unto God, ‘cries out’ for the Christian values that you have come to know.
