Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  2024  Day 93

April 2;       I Corinthians 16:15;      149/260;       ‘Devoting Themselves’

1 Corinthians 16:15 I urge you, brethren — you know the household of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints —

Stephanas and his household were among the first converts in southern Greece. There are families like Stephanas’ in every church. They are the ‘backbone’ of local churches. Paul tells us that they have devoted themselves to ministering to the members of the church. Strong Christian families are so vital to a church. They attend regularly, are involved in various areas of the church, they support the church with their time, finances and kindness toward the church body. As time goes on, it is easy for a Pastor to see those he can promote and trust to minister biblically and lovingly. There are many who attend a local church who are gifted by the Lord and should be used mightily by him. Many times Christians like this are not faithful and for whatever reason are minimally involved. Often if they are not in charge, they do not want to be involved. The very attitude they exemplify excludes them from the position that they desire. Paul goes on to encourage the church in Corinth to submit to Stephanas and his household. Submission is earned. The Lord raised up this family to be a huge blessing to the church. No Pastor can do all of the work alone. He needs those he can trust to encourage members of the church to be involved. Stephanas and his household had earned the respect of Paul and their character allowed those in the church to submit to them and work with them gladly. Love is the key. Come to treating others kindly. Be willing to be used by the Lord to do whatever needs to be done. God will see to it that you are seen and promoted because of who you have grown to be.
