Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  2024  Day 293

October 17;        John 21:6;         89/260;        ‘Do What He Says’

John 21:6 And He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.

At least four of the disciples were professional fishermen.  They caught nothing all night.  Jesus, appearing to them for the third time, after He was raised from the dead, stood on the shore and shouted to them to cast their net into the water again.  They did so and caught a multitude of fish.  This was the second time Peter caught a multitude of fish when he obeyed Jesus’ command to let down his net (Luke 5:1-9).  In both instances, when the disciples did what Jesus said, they were blessed.  Several times in the Word we see that simple obedience to what the Lord told someone to do brought blessing or help.  Elijah was told to flee from Saul after he told him it would not rain until Elijah said it would.  Elijah was told that the ravens would feed him and they did.  Elijah did what the Lord said.  When Jesus fed the five thousand and four thousand men, not counting women and children, both times there were only a few loaves of bread and a few fish.  The disciples did what the Lord said, distributing the bread and fish to the multitude and they were all fed.  When Jesus was questioned about paying taxes, He told Peter to cast a line into the water and he would find a coin in the mouth of the first fish he caught.  It was just as Jesus said.  Jesus is in heaven now, at the right hand of the Father.  He still speaks to us by the Word.  We must still do what He said in the Word.  If Jesus in the Word tells you that He is your Healer.  Believe what He said.  Stand against the symptoms and be healed.  If He tells you that He is your peace,  believe what He said and as you begin to be anxious for nothing, His peace will guard your heart and mind.
