Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" 2024 Day 277
October 2; John 6:38; 74/260(III); ‘The Father’s Will’
John 6:38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
Jesus was the Father’s will in action. Since Jesus tells us that He came to do the will of His Father, we know that everything we see Jesus do as He ministered was the Father’s will. Several times in the Gospels Jesus declares that He and His Father are One. As Jesus’ ministry was about to begin, John the Baptist baptized Jesus in the Jordan River. When Jesus came up out of the water, the Holy Spirit came upon Him and God the Father spoke from heaven saying, “this is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” The power of the Holy Spirit was vital for Jesus to fulfill His ministry and His Father’s will. This pleased the Father that Jesus was prepared and now empowered to minister. The Bible teaches twice in Matthew’s Gospel that Jesus taught, preached and healed. Since Jesus came to do the will of the Father, teaching, preaching and healing had to be the Father’s will. Very often you hear someone say they do not know if it is the will of the Father to heal them. These verses very clearly reveal the Father’s will. Jesus also cast out demons and raised the dead, this also fulfilled His Father’s will. Later in Jesus’ ministry, when He had taught, preached and healed multitudes, Jesus was on the Mt. of Transfiguration with Peter, James and John. Once again the Father said how pleased He was with His beloved Son. The Father’s will was revealed in His Son. Soon Jesus would go to the cross to die in our place for our sins and to take sickness upon Himself. Jesus’ ministry fulfilled His Father’s will.
