September 30;      John 4:42;       72/260(III);      ‘We Heard Him’

John 4:42 Then they said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."

Jesus was speaking to the woman at the well in Samaria.  Though He was wearied from His journey, Jesus was still anointed and shared things with the woman that He could have only known as the Holy Spirit revealed them to Him.  Jesus tells the woman that He is the Messiah (verse 26) and she believed Him.  The woman quickly left and told the men of the city about Jesus and they went with her to talk to Him.  While in the city the woman shared her testimony of talking with Jesus and how He knew, by the Holy Spirit, about her personal life.  Verse 39 tells us that many believed in Jesus because of the woman’s testimony.  Our testimony is powerful.  We share what the Lord has done for us personally. No one can take that away from us.  Verse 41 teaches that many more believed in Jesus when they went out to the well and personally listened to what He taught.  The Lord Jesus is in heaven now, at the right hand of the Father.  He no longer is here to share His truths.  We can still hear Jesus for ourselves by reading the Word of God.  In Bible School we were always taught that the Bible is God speaking to us.  As we read God’s Word for ourselves, we begin to see the incredible truths of how much we are loved and what the Lord Jesus did for us.  As wonderful and impactful as a testimony is, it is shared through a human being.  The Word of God is God Himself revealing His eternal commitment and provision, what he has done for us through His Son Jesus.  Thank the Lord for Testimonies and even more for the Word.
