Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  2024  Day 273

September 28;      John 2:5;       70/260(III);      ‘Do What He Says’

John 2:5 His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it."

Jesus was at a wedding.  Since Mary, Jesus’ mother was in charge, it probably was the wedding of a relative.  They had run out of wine and Mary asks Jesus to do something.  As in virtually all of the Word of God, there is a literal meaning to what is said and then there is an additional, spiritual meaning.  The Lord is about to do His first miracle, by turning water into wine, but what Mary told the servants is incredibly applicable to all of us.  The Bible is God speaking to us.  The Lord Jesus and His Word will never contradict each other.  The Word of God was written to carefully explain to us the Lord’s plan of salvation.  It is very clear and precise since our eternal destiny hinges of our understanding what Jesus did and accepting that personally.  This is how we become born again.  God’s Word is also our guide explaining to us how to live and why we should live as Jesus teaches.  The Lord Jesus, in the Word, encourages us to do exactly what the scriptures say.  No one will ever love you the way we are loved by Jesus.  He created us and knows that if we will do what the Word teaches, all of the blessings the Word will be ours.  A short and simple statement by Mary is so profound, do what He tells you.  In the parable of the wise and foolish builders, both men heard the Word of God.  That is good and vital.  The wise builder not only heard the Word, but He did the Word.  When the storms of life came the wise builder was fine, since He built his life on the Word.  The foolish builder did not do the Word, the storms of life ruined him.
