Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  2024  Day 140

May 19;       I Timothy 6:6;        196/260;        ‘Godly & Content’

1 Timothy 6:6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain.

What a wonderful verse.  Godliness means being busy doing the Lord’s work.  The challenges, misery and heartache the unsaved face are staggering.  Once we become a Christian, the Love of God in our spirit yearns to help them and to lead them to what life is all about, Jesus Christ.  We have the privilege of leading others to Jesus.  Presenting the Word of God clearly, accurately and kindly and praying with them to be born again is the greatest honor anyone could have.  Sharing the Gospel with those who have no hope (the lost, Ephesians, 2:12) and seeing hope stir in them and a smile on their face replacing sadness or tears, is such a gift from the Lord.  As Spirit filled Christians, we have the power of the Holy Spirit to pray for those afflicted physically and seeing that power set the hurting person free.  Put these things together and we are blessed by the Lord to have the most meaningful and fulfilling life imaginable.  This is part of the abundant life Jesus gives us when we become a serious, ministry minded Christian.  Living this way brings contentment, which is great gain.  The things coveted by the world may be alluring for a brief period of time, but stuff and living only for your own pleasure gets old quickly.  If you are busy endeavoring to meet the needs of others, the Lord will take care of your needs.  What a contented feeling it is to go retire for the night, knowing you did everything you could to grow spiritually and use that growth to minister Jesus to others.  That truly is great gain.
