Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  2024  Day 136

May 15;       I Timothy 2:5;        192/260;        ‘Jesus Our Ransom’

1 Timothy 2:6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,

We are told in I Timothy 2:1-5 to pray for all men because the Lord desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.  The knowledge of the truth is that Jesus Christ died for humanity.  In Him everyone can be saved.  That knowledge is clearly taught in the Word of God.  Verse 6 tells us that the Lord Jesus freely gave Himself to be a ransom for all.  Ransom means to pay a price in order to liberate someone.  It always costs the one who liberates something.  Jesus paid an incredible price for us.  He never sinned, but on the cross, He became every sin that was, is and ever will be for everyone.  Jesus also became every sickness and disease that anyone ever had or will have.  At the cross the ransom for all was paid by Jesus who willingly went through pain and humiliation beyond anything we could ever imagine.  The Word of God clearly ‘testifies’ to these truths.  It is in the Word of God that we learn of God’s love, Jesus’ sacrifice and our being forgiven.  When we attend a church that teaches the Bible, the Pastor testifies of these truths as He shares messages from the Word with the congregation.  What I believe this verse is also teaching concerning ‘testified in due time,’ means our sharing the gospel with others.  When we first get born again, perhaps we are a little timid to share the Word since we may not know it very well yet.  As time goes on, we mature in the things of God our ‘due time’ to testify has come.  We love the Lord for ransoming us and testify about Him with everyone we can.
