Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 36

February 5;       I Corinthians 6:20;       36/260(II);       ‘Our Purchase Price’

1 Corinthians 6:20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

Our redemption by the Lord Jesus Christ, from sin and sickness, had a price.  The price our Lord Jesus paid was His shed blood, which, I Peter 1:18-19 teaches, is far more precious than gold or silver.   Because our Lord willingly laid down His life for us, the only response on our part that makes sense, is our glorifying and honoring Jesus with our body and spirit.  Why is the rational of this verse so true?  Before becoming Born Again, we had the nature of satan, which is pride.  In the beginning, Adam had the nature of God and was in close fellowship with Him.  When Adam sinned, he lost his godly nature and the prideful nature of the devil entered his spirit.  Adam, as the first man, represented humanity and so, after he sinned, his new nature has been passed down to everyone.  Humanity, has no way to get back into a relationship with God the Father.  Religion is our hopeless efforts to earn heaven by our good deeds.  God the Father is holy and man without Jesus is not.  Because of this, unless the Father had made a way for us to enter into fellowship with Him again, we are all doomed to hell.  That is why Jesus came.  The Bible teaches that Jesus never sinned.  Deuteronomy 28 teaches that if a man does not sin a multitude of blessings shall be his.  Jesus was the only One who qualified for the blessings.  He did not take the blessings, He took the punishment for our sins upon Himself and gave us His blessings, which includes a restored relationship with the Father.  When we believe and accept the price Jesus paid, eternal life is ours.  We could never glorify Him enough for his sacrifice.
