Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 92

April 2;    I Timothy 6:12;    92/260(II);    ‘The Good Fight’

1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

The genius of God.  There is so much in this one verse.  No man could have written the Bible.  The Author had to be God (the Holy Spirit) Himself.  First, the word fight is very expressive.  It means to fight in such a way as to get the attention of others, as they observe the ‘beautiful way’ that you fight.  Being strong in faith gets the attention of others.  When they may be fearful and falling apart, you just stand there fully confident in the Lord who loves you, that He will see you through.  Notice that faith is a good fight.  We have taken time to learn the Word and when there is a challenge we find chapter and verse that tell us that need has already been met.  Then we stand, having prayed in faith, knowing we have the answer.  ‘Lay hold on eternal life.’  We are bold to seize what belongs to us.  That is part of the blessing of strong faith.  We know what belongs to us, we know we are righteous and the authority of Jesus Christ has been given to us.  Because of this we refuse not to have what belongs to us.  We have been called by the Lord to live like this, more than overcomers.  In a negative world, living a Christian lifestyle that every Christian can and should live, is a powerful witness for the Lord Jesus Christ.  Timothy, who is a pastor shares these truths with the congregation he has been entrusted with.  Studying the Bible, learning and living by the incredible truths taught, especially in the epistles, Romans to Jude, enables you to live a victorious life.  That is the way it should be.  Helping others to see how a Christian should live and helping them live that way too is even better.  We fight good and win.
