Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 88

March 29;    I Timothy 2:5;    88/260(II);    ‘Our Mediator’

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,

This verse is so wonderful and is just further conclusive proof that salvation can only come through the Lord Jesus Christ.  The Gospel of John was inspired by the Holy Spirit to reveal that Jesus Christ is God.  An example of that is John 14:6 when Jesus tells us that He is the way, the truth and the life and that no one comes to the Father, except through Him.  I Timothy 2:5 is another way that we learn the incredible role that Jesus and only Jesus plays in the eternal destiny of humanity.  A Mediator is someone who intervenes between two parties with the intent of settling any disagreements and bringing them together.  The Mediator has to have the ability to represent both parties.  Because of the sin of Adam, which cursed mankind, we, as sinners were eternally separated from God the Father.  He is holy and we are not.  If there was to be a reconciling between the Lord and humanity, the Lord had to come up with the plan.  He did – Jesus.  The Lord Jesus Christ is God, just as much God as God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.  For that reason He represents God.  Philippians 2 teaches that a kenosis or an emptying took place and the Lord Jesus emptied Himself of deity and for a short period of time came to earth as a Man.  For that reason Jesus represents man as well.  Hence, the perfect Mediator.  Jesus can represent God since relationally He always remained God.  As a Man, He could represent us and experience everything we go through.  As our Mediator, Jesus took God the Father’s hand and our hand and brought us back together by His sacrificial work on our behalf.
