Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 62
March 3; Galatians 3:24; 62/260(II); ‘The Tutor’
Galatians 3:24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
God’s Law was a teacher (tutor), designed by the Lord to bring us to Jesus. How so? The Law was given to teach us what we should do. The Law was actually the opposite of what a teacher does. A teacher usually gives instructions in what we are to do and how we are to do it. God’s Law was to teach us that what it requires we cannot do. The requirements of the Law very clearly taught that we have no ability to completely do what we are told to do. In addition, the Jewish religious leaders added to the Law their own regulations that enslaved those who erroneously thought the Law was the way to God. The Law was given to show us that we are sinners. The Lord does not do this to condemn us, the devil is the one who condemns. The Law was to show us how futile it was to try to keep all of the details, therefore the Law pointed us directly to the Lord Jesus Christ who could and did fulfill the Law. Jesus kept the Law and deserved the blessings of keeping the Law, which He did not take. Jesus took the penalty of the Law for our sins and sicknesses. Jesus freely did this out of His love for us all. The Father sent Jesus to suffer on our behalf, forever cleansing us legally from our sins and blessing us with all of the blessings the Word provides. The Father, because of the Lord Jesus’ obedience and willingness to pay our price, stated that no one would ever come to heaven to be with the Father and Jesus eternally, unless they accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We accept Jesus as our Lord by faith, believing He is the Son of God and that He died for us. The tutor did its job.
