Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 52
Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 52
February 21; 2 Corinthians 6:16; 52/260(II); ‘The Temple of God’
2 Corinthians 6:16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people."
Our body is the temple of God. The Holy Spirit comes to live in our spirit when we are Born Again. In the analogy of this verse, idols never should have been in the temple. As the Jews backslid, pagan idols were brought into the temple, angering the Lord. Today, Christian’s bodies are the temple of God and we still bring idols into the temple. Things that are more important to us than the Lord, He considers idols. Hobbies, sports, entertainment, on and on, though the Lord surely allows us to enjoy things like this, their importance in our lives can be detrimental to our walk with the Lord and be looked upon as idols by our God. What an honor we have to be the temple of God. That Almighty God would live in us and that we can represent Him wherever we go. The Old Testament temple was filled with holy items. The attire of the priests, all pointed to Jesus. One example is a gold medallion that fastened to the forehead of the priest. ‘Holiness to the Lord’ was inscribed on the medallion. Our mind is to be holy, renewed by the Lord. All of the furnishings of the temple also pointed to Jesus. Think about this. We are clothed with righteousness. We have the Lord’s love and the character of Jesus in our spirit (the fruit of the Spirit). We have the Holy Spirit in us to lead us, help us and empower us. This verse clearly teaches that the Lord lives in us and He walks among us as we conduct our lives in a holy and biblical manner. When we purpose in our heart to be the temple of God, living to bring honor to the Lord, everyone will surely see that God the Father is our God and we are His people.
