February 9; I Corinthians 10:11; 40/260(II); ‘Reality & Example’
1 Corinthians10:11 All these events happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us, who live at the time when this age is drawing to a close. NLT
God’s Word is truth (John 17:17), but the Word is so much more as well. The Old Testament gives us an accurate history of the Jews. The account of the Israelites taught in the scriptures is fascinating. Since the Bible is authored by the Holy Spirit and is a product of the genius of God, you must realize that the true stories shared in the Word, are examples of what we as Christians should do and not do. Old Testament Israel is a type of the church, and we can learn a great deal by learning about the Jews and applying what we learn to our lives. So much of what we read about the Jews reveals the Lord’s supernatural protection and provision. That is the first thing we must learn from the history of the Jews. The Lord blessed them supernaturally. As Christians we are not limited to only the natural help of this world. Jesus Christ, is our Lord and Savior and we have a multitude of spiritual blessings, outlined in the Word, that bless us and provide for us. The plagues sent on the Egyptians, the blood of the Passover Lamb, a type of Jesus’ shed blood, to protect the Jews from the death of the first born and the parting of the Red Sea to allow the Jews to escape the tyranny of the Egyptians were all examples to us that our Lord’s help is miraculous. The Lord provided food, called manna, for forty years while the Jews were in the wilderness. Unfortunately the Jews also did things that were not good. They were constantly complaining when things did not go their way. Later they would begin to forsake the Lord and worship idols (we do that too, leisure, sports, etc.). Duplicate the good avoid the bad.
