Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 362

December 28;      Hebrews 4:16;       207/260(III);        ‘Come Boldly’

Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Verse 15 is an amazing verse.  The Lord Jesus, we know, left His deity in heaven and came to earth as a Man.  The devil, knowing who Jesus was, tried everything to cause the Lord Jesus to sin.  Our eternal destiny was on the line, so the Lord Jesus came through every temptation without sin.  What His experience with temptations did accomplish, was to make our Lord keenly aware of what each of us face.  We are free to come boldly to the throne of grace.  Notice, God’s throne is grace not judgment.  If we sin, we are to go to the throne of grace, share our need for His help in our time of need and there we will find His mercy.  Obviously the Lord does not want us to sin and we cannot use the Lord’s grace as freedom to sin.  But, His plan is and always has been that as we get to know the Lord Jesus through the Word and prayer, our love for Him will grow and our goal will be to live in a manner pleasing to the Lord Jesus.  He always knows that we are trying and when this is a reality we can go boldly to the throne of grace, knowing that the Lord knows we are doing are best.  Our sincere efforts make our need for His mercy concerning our conduct less and less.  The Lord is always on our side.  Religion teaches that God punishes us when we sin.  The truth is sin punishes us.  That is why the Lord wants us to live free from the misery sin brings.  We are loved.  Jesus experienced life, redeemed us and now is there to help us in time of need
