Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 360
December 26; Hebrews 2:17; 205/260(III); ‘Our Faithful High Priest’
Hebrews 2:17 Therefore, it was necessary for Jesus to be in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. He then could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people. NLT
The Lord always does things legally and properly. The first Adam, as a man, was given authority on the earth and sinned, cursing the entire human race that he represented. The Lord Jesus was called the ‘Last Adam’ in I Corinthians 15 and had to succeed at what Adam failed at. Jesus also represented the entire human race and He lived a victorious, overcoming life so that we could as well. The Bible tells us that Jesus was tempted in all ways and yet He did not sin. Since He was tempted in all ways, He knows what we face and is a loving and sympathetic Savior. As our Example, when the devil tempted Jesus, Jesus defended Himself with the Word of God. The Lord is not judgmental or critical of you ever. In the Old Testament, the High Priest went into the Holy of Holies with the blood of a sacrificial animal. That blood was presented by the High Priest for the sins of the people. The sacrificial blood covered the sins of the Jewish people for one year. The Lord Jesus is our merciful and faithful High Priest. He after His death for us on the cross, rose from the dead and entered the heavenly Holy of Holies, not with the blood of a sacrificial animal, but with His own blood and when He offered His blood, the sins of humanity were cleansed, not covered, forever. The sin of Adam separated us from the Father. That was unacceptable to Him (thank God). Jesus came and redeemed us from the curse. Know this truth, live this truth, share this truth.
