Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 357
Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 357
December 23; Titus 3:9; 202/260(III); ‘Avoid Disputes’
Titus 3:9 But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.
If you have spent any time in Christianity and are serious about serving the Lord, there will be those who want to share with you their ‘revelation’ that is completely unscriptural. All they desire to do is argue their point until you ‘see things their way.’ It is a waste of time. The Bible calls this foolish disputes. The Lord loved us too much for us to be deceived by those who twist the Word of God, endeavoring to make it say what it clearly does not say. God’s Word protects us from those who do this and calls it unprofitable and useless. Thank the Lord that this does not happen very often. The first few times it does happen, it is very disconcerting. Once you ‘get used to’ those who are contentious and strive about the Word, it is easy to simply tell them you do not debate the Word of God. They will get mad, but they will also get the point and try their new teaching on others. Ministers and Christians who know the Word are not deceived by these contentious individuals. Where they do the most harm is with those who are not strong in the Word. Over the years I have seen groups of people led astray by teachings that are clearly not biblical. Erroneous doctrines such as there is no hell, everyone goes to heaven and others are dangerous and stunt the maturity of sincere believers. Be very careful to only teach chapter and verse from God’s Word. Also share that the Holy Spirit will warn a Christian if the teaching is wrong. The Word and the Spirit protect us.
