Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 355
Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 355
December 21; Titus 1:10; 200/260(III); ‘Right Teaching’
Titus 1:10 For there are many who rebel against right teaching; they engage in useless talk and deceive people. This is especially true of those who insist on circumcision for salvation.
In verse 9 Paul encourages Titus to hold fast to the truth, the Word of God that he has been taught. The Word of God, which is the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16) is sound doctrine and encourages and convicts those who contradict it. For various reasons there are many who are not interested in knowing the truth, but they endeavor to deceive others with what they profess to be truth. This is why, because of the Lord’s love for us, He gave us the Bible. The Bible is truth and it exposes the lies and deception others may try to teach as truth. ‘Those who insist on circumcision for salvation’ are religious leaders who teach erroneous doctrines and lead others, who do not know the Word astray. Historically, Titus was a very strong minister spiritually and was very capable of standing up to the religious deception. The island of Crete was said to be a haven for religion and Paul sent Titus there to straighten things out. There are ministers that can be trusted and used by the Lord to protect believers and silence those who teach falsehoods. Even if you are not called to the ‘pulpit’ ministry, you can and should get strong in the Word and do everything you can to help Christians steer clear of deceptive lies that may sound like the truth. Churches need believers who know the Word and help the Pastor help the body of Christ. There are always new believers who may be especially vulnerable. The Word and strong leaders will protect and help them.
