Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 330
Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 330
November 26; Philippians 2:21; 176/260(III); ‘The Good of Others’
Philippians 2:21 For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus.
Chapter 2 of Philippians majors on the good of others. Think about this. Once you become a Christian, eternal life has been granted to you. Additionally, Jesus has assured us that He will meet every need we could ever have. Now that that is settled for us, He wants us to think about others, blessing them and treating them in such a manner that they will want the Lord who radically changes lives for the better. Verse 3 of this chapter encourages us to consider others better than ourselves. Verse 4 tells us to look out for the interest of others and not only ourselves. Verses 5-11 teaches us that Jesus left heaven, became a Man, suffered incredibly to redeem us from sin and sickness and was given the highest Name in the universe by God the Father, because of Jesus’ unselfish sacrifice on our behalf. Verses 19-20, continuing on looking out for the good of others, Paul tells the church he will send Timothy to them shortly. Then Paul shares something wonderful about Timothy in verse 20 ‘For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state.’ What an incredible thing to say. It doesn’t get any better than that. It is wonderful Paul knows this about Timothy. Imagine how the Lord must feel about Timothy, his unselfish care and love for others. Paul then tells us that people are usually interested in their own things, not the things of the Lord. If you are saved, every need you will ever have is met. How great you will feel helping others.
