Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 301

October 28;      I Corinthians 14:2;       147/260(III);        ‘Speaking to God’

I Corinthians 14:2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

Praying in tongues is so very important.  It verifies that the miracle working power of the Holy Spirit has come upon you.  That is the incredible power that raised Jesus from the dead and the power that the Lord Jesus ministered by while here on earth.  The baptism in the Holy Spirit empowers us to continue the ministry of the Lord Jesus.  Romans 8:26-27 teaches that when we pray in tongues the Holy Spirit is helping us to pray.  When we pray for others and even for ourselves we often do not know all of the details concerning what we are praying about.  The Holy Spirit is God and He knows every detail.  So when we pray in tongues about a situation, the Holy Spirit prays the perfect prayer through us concerning that situation.  The Holy Spirit prays through us to the Father.  God connects with God using us as the vessel that this is accomplished by. When we pray in tongues, we are praying out of our spirit.  What we pray is mysteries to us, but not to the Lord.  You may wake up one night with a burden to pray for someone, you may know who they are or you may not.  We have been given tongues to pray accurately and powerfully for the person we were woken to pray for.  You may say, “I do not understand praying in tongues.”  Praying in tongues is the Lord’s idea.  He is God.  He is smarter than us and He would never give you something that is a waste of time or foolish.  The ability to pray, helped by God.  What a powerful blessing.
