Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 293

October 20;      I Corinthians 6:11;       139/260(III);        ‘Washed Justified Sanctified’

1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

In verses 9 and 10 of this chapter Paul lists several types of sinners who will not receive eternal life unless they change.  The fact that they can change is brought out in the above verse.  Many of our names could be included with these sinners, but we became born again and thank the Lord, everything changed.  We were washed from our sins. We, were justified or made righteous when we were saved.  We were sanctified and set apart for the Lord’s service, when we believed on Jesus.  The Holy Spirit recreated our spirit, from a spirit of stone to a spirit of flesh.  The Holy Spirit put God’s love into our spirit and the fruit of the Spirit as well.  The Word of God is the ‘agent’ of change.  The Word of God is likened to water which is able to wash us (Ephesians 5:26).  We are justified or made righteous by the Word of God (Romans 1:16-17).  The Word teaches us that the Lord Jesu took our sins upon Himself and gave us His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21).  The Word of God is truth and it sanctifies us, setting us apart for the Lord’s service (John 17:17)  Jesus tells us that if we continue in the Word we will know the truth and the truth we know makes us free from the lies of this world. A world that is alienated from Jesus (John 8:31-32).  Regardless of our past, who we were, if we are serious about Jesus, the Word of God will reveal to us how to change, become born again, a new creation in Christ.  Washed, justified, sanctified a brand new, exciting life.
