Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 284

October 11;      Romans 13:14;       130/260(III);        ‘Put on Jesus’

Romans 13:14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

There are several verses in the Pauline epistles (letters) with the phrases ‘put on’ and ‘put off.’  ‘Put on’ means to clothe yourself with.  ‘Put off’ means to remove the clothing you have on or stop doing what you are doing.  The meaning in this verse is to clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus.  As we read the gospels and the epistles, we are to study Jesus’ Example and live our lives as He did.  We can make a quality decision that our lives will reflect Jesus Christ.  We are to submit to Jesus as our Lord.  We are to accept and do what the Word says concerning our conduct as exemplified by Jesus.  We need to fellowship with Jesus in prayer.  We must make sure that we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking with other tongues.  That is the power the Lord Jesus ministered by when He was on the earth and that is the power we minister by as we continue Jesus’ ministry.  The lusts of the flesh can be strong.  The stronger our resolve to put on Jesus, the faster we will conquer those areas of our lives that are improper.  As we are clothed with Jesus, the desire to be just like Him and represent Him, continuing His ministry will get stronger and the lusts of our flesh will grow weaker.  You may ‘miss it’ a few times.  Don’t quit.  If you are serious about representing Jesus on the earth, you will ‘miss it’ less and less.  What will happen is the honor to be like Jesus will overcome our flesh.  Old inappropriate behavior will cease.
