Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 281

October 8;      Romans 10:14;       127/260(III);        ‘Call, Believe, Hear’

Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

This verse makes perfect sense.  In order for someone to be born again, they must know the truth about Jesus from the Word of God.  They do not need religious traditions that contradict the Word, they simply need the truth that God’s Word is.  Verse 13 of this chapter teaches that whoever calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved.  They cannot call on Jesus to save them if they do not yet believe that Jesus can save them or that He is the Savior.  How will they believe on Jesus, who His is?  Romans 10:17 tells us that faith (belief) comes by hearing the Word.  Someone needs to hear the gospel concerning Jesus, who He is and what He has done for them.  This verse tells us that the unsaved need to hear a preacher in order to call on the Lord in whom they now believe.  What are we to do if there is no preacher around?   The word preacher simply means someone who proclaims divine truth.  That is the Bible and that is all of us.  In one of the two passages we call the Great Commission, Mark 16:15 declares that all of us are to proclaim divine truth to everyone, everywhere.  Every believer is a minister of reconciliation and an ambassador for Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5).  So this wonderful verse encourages all of us, as Christians to share the gospel with the lost so that they can hear the Good News, believe what they hear and call upon the Lord Jesus Christ to save them. There is no greater honor in life than to share the Word and lead them to Jesus.
