Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 277
Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 277
October 4; Romans 6:4; 123/260(III); ‘Buried and Raised’
Romans 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
This spiritual truth is so very important. Only the genius of God could do this and teach it from the Word in a manner that we can understand, be blessed by and function in. When we are water baptized, as we are placed under the water, it signifies our dying and being buried with the Lord Jesus in His death on our behalf. When we are raised from under the water, it is a type of our being raised from the dead, just like Jesus was by the glory of God. The Holy Spirit, is the glory of God, who raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 8:11). Our sin nature is dead. That nature was pride, the nature of the devil, which is the nature of those who are not yet born again. Now we live by our new nature, God’s love, which is the nature of the Lord Jesus Christ. We can live by our new nature, and it is vitally important that we do in order to continue the ministry of the Lord Jesus. If we are serious about our relationship with Jesus, since we have legally died to sin, we can live a life that reflects the Lord Jesus as we minister on His behalf. It does not mean that we are perfect and do not sin, but what it does mean is that with our new nature, we no longer desire to live as we used to. The more time we spend in the Word, prayer, church and doing the work of the ministry, the more this verse comes alive for us. We walk in the newness of life. This newness of life, is so much better and fulfilling than the way we used to live, that we are eager for each new day, so that we can continue the ministry of Jesus and live our lives just as He did. Sin no longer appeals, the newness of life is so meaningful, as we glorify Jesus in all we do.
