Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 276
October 3; Romans 5:8; 122/260(III); ‘Love Demonstrated’
Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Talk is cheap. It is easy to tell someone about the attributes of God’s love. How incredibly special His love is. But how about doing it. At Calvary, on the cross the Lord Jesus demonstrated His love for humanity. There were many who met Him and heard Him, who loved Him and knew He was the Messiah, the Son of God. There were also multitudes who did not know Him, were indifferent to Him or even hated Jesus. For them the Lord Jesus died as well. All of us are sinners. Jesus came to die for sinners and He did. The Lord is a faith God. He has faith that if you will take time to know Him through the Word of God. Once you find out His character, His love for you and what He did on your behalf, indifference or even hatred will turn to love. In a sense the Father ‘took a gamble’ on humanity’s response to absolute love. God the Father and the Lord Jesus were more than willing to go first, with their commitment of demonstrating a selfless love, that only sought our good, knowing many would not receive it, but also knowing that many would. As we remember that Jesus came as our Example as well as our Redeemer, how exciting and challenging it is to know that when we become born again, the love of God is placed into our spirit by the Holy Spirit. Now we, Jesus’ ambassadors can love those whom He loves with His love. That love never fails. Some, really most, will respond favorably as we reflect our Savior’s love.
