Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 234

August 22;       John 12:49:       80/260(III);       ‘A Disciplined Mouth’

John 12:49 For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.

The Bible has much to say about the words of our mouth.  We, as spirit beings, have great power with our words, just like the Lord.  Jesus is the Word (John 1:1) and He practiced what He preached.  Knowing the importance and power of His words, the Lord Jesu tells us in this verse that He disciplined Himself to speak what the Father told Him to speak.  In verse 50, the Lord further explains that the words the Father instructed Jesus to speak lead to eternal life.  Knowing this, Jesus placed Himself under the Father’s authority concerning the words He spoke.  This truth should have an incredible impact on what we, as Christians say as well.  Since we know that people must hear the Word of God, what the Bible teaches, we too can discipline ourselves and share the words of eternal life.  At every opportunity, we can and must share scripture with those who are not yet saved.  God’s Word is truth.  It is alive and makes a powerful impression on those who you share with.  Engage them in a conversation and then look for an opportunity to speak the Word to them.  Every morning, when you leave your house, ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to those you can share scripture with.  Ask the Holy Spirit, also, to help you to know what scriptures to share with those that he puts in your path.  Remember, the Lord Jesus is our Example as well as our Redeemer.  If He listened for the words to speak, then that is what we should do as well.  God’s words.
