Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 221

August 9;       Luke 23:33;       67/260(III);       ‘There They Crucified Him’

Luke 23:33 And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

The Lord Jesus, in John 6 and John 12, taught us that He came to do His Father’s will and to say what His Father told Him to say.  The last thing, our Lord said on the cross was, “It is finished.”  He would not die, because He told us that no one could take His life, He gave His life, until He finished what His Father sent Him to earth to do,  The Word says that the devil mistakenly thought he won, when the Lord Jesus was crucified.  Little did the devil know that he fell right into the Lord’s trap.  This is one proof that satan is not all knowing.  He had no idea what the crucifixion of Jesus represented.  What was the complete meaning of Jesus’ last words, “It is finished.”  Surely Jesus redeemed us from our sins and sicknesses when He was crucified for us.  Jesus was punished for our sins and became our sicknesses on the cross.  Jesus came to earth as a Man and was called the Last Adam.  The first Adam failed in what he was created to do.  He was to use his given authority to have dominion on the earth.  When Adam sinned, he yielded his authority to satan and cursed the earth.   Jesus, as a Man, regained the authority Adam lost and gave it back to mankind when He rose from the dead.  While Jesus was on the earth He taught, preached and healed by the power of the Holy Spirit, showing us how He wanted us to live.  When He rose from the dead and went to heaven He sent the Holy Spirit to empower us to minister as He did.  It is finished, Jesus won.
