Pastor Barry's Chapter and Verse Day 208

July 27;       Luke 10:30;       54/260(III);       ‘The Good Samaritan’

Luke 10:30 Then Jesus answered and said: "A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

In the genius of God, many times what Jesus taught had a literal meaning and the same teaching had a spiritual meaning as well.  The good Samaritan is no exception.  The spiritual truth of this passage will bless you.  The ‘certain man’ was Adam.  Notice that he fell.  Adam fell when he sinned.  He fell among thieves.  The devil is the thief (John 10:10).  When Adam fell, the earth was cursed.  The curses included poverty. The thieves ‘stripped him of his clothing.’  The curse included sickness.  The thieves ‘wounded him.’ The curse included death, spiritual and physical.  The thieves left him ‘half dead.’  Adam died spiritually when he sinned and his sin opened the door for physical death.  Verses 31-32 tell us that a priest and Levite saw the man and passed him by on the other side.  They represent religion.  Religion could not help Adam, it is a counterfeit.  Verse 33 says a Samaritan saw the man and had compassion.  Jesus was that Samaritan.  He was called a Samaritan because the Jews hated the Samaritans.  The Samaritan in verse 34 took care of the man, just like the Lord Jesus took care of us, redeeming us from the curse.  The Samaritan took the man to the inn (v34).  The inn is the church and the innkeeper is the Holy Spirit (v35).  The Samaritan paid two denarii.  A denarii was a days wage.  The Bible teaches a day is like a thousand years, so the Samaritan paid for two thousand years.  The Good Samaritan, Jesus, is coming back.
