Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 206
July 25; Luke 8:5; 52/260(III); ‘The Sower Sowed’
Luke 8:5 "A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it.
The Lord Jesus is about to teach on the parable of the sower and the seed. This is an incredibly important parable. The Lord Jesus used parables, that those who heard Him could understand. Many of those who heard, planted crops, and were well aware of the things Jesus would say about the seed and the soil types. Please know that what Jesus taught was not difficult to understand. Why would the Lord intentionally try to confuse you or teach things hard to comprehend. Unfortunately, religion often does that to show how smart the religious leader is. All that does is frustrate those who hear and often cause them not to listen or not to attend services taught by these religious leaders. Jesus tells us that the sower went out to sow. Who is the sower? Every one of us. We are called to share God’s Word. The sower’s intent was to sow the Word everywhere, to everyone. The soil types represent the hearts of those who hear the Word. Everyone who hears the Word that is sown is different and they have differing responses to the Word of God. The response of others to the Word we sow is not up to us, it is up to the one who hears. Our responsibility is to sow the Word. Some are ready to receive what you sow immediately, others are not. Just because some are not receptive or as receptive as we would like them to be now, does not mean that, as you continue to sow, that they will not be at some point. The Word is so powerful, it stirs each heart.
