Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 192

July 11;    Mark 10:45;    38/260(III);    ‘Jesus Came to Serve’

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

What an incredible verse.  Think about that.  The Lord Jesus Christ is God.  The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus created everything.  Our Lord has been eternally in heaven with the Father and the Holy Spirit, adored by the multitudes of angels.  Now this verse teaches us that when Jesus came to earth, after divesting Himself of His deity, He was born a Man.  He came to redeem us from our sins and sicknesses by taking them upon Himself.  Salvation is freely given to us when we believe that Jesus, the Son of God, died for our sins and sicknesses.  Then, because of what He did, we freely accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.  We are told in this verse that Jesus came not only to redeem us, but to serve others during His earthly ministry.  Think of the contrast from what He was eternally used to in heaven, to His servant’s heart while on earth.  The Lord Jesus, in addition to being our Redeemer, was our Example of how to live.  Jesus told us that if we wanted to be great, we are to serve.  How different that is from what the world thinks greatness is.  The powerful and famous love to be admired and waited upon.  Life is given meaning when we, as Jesus did, look for opportunities to help others.  To share the Lord with them, to pray for them, to treat everyone with dignity and respect makes life worth living.  Living to be served is the deception of the devil and can be eternally tragic.  Jesus died for us and His Example of serving teaches us exactly how to live.
