Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 163
Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 163
June 12; Matthew 8:29; 8/260(III); ‘Good Terrifies Evil’
Matthew 8:29 And suddenly they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?"
The Lord Jesus and his disciples were in a boat when a fierce storm suddenly began. The Lord Jesus was sleeping and His disciples woke Him, fearful of drowning. The Lord Jesus spoke to the storm and the winds ceased and the waves calmed down. His disciple marveled at the great authority Jesus had even over the elements. They were about to see another demonstration of His power and authority. They docked the boat in the country of the Gergesenes. Immediately there met Jesus two demon possessed men who lived in the cemetery. They were fierce and no one could pass by that area. Luke’s gospel tells us that they could not be chained. Their demonic strength broke the shackles. When Adam sinned, satan became the god of this world and he blinds the minds of the unsaved to the gospel (2 Corinthians 4:3-4). One of the ways the devil deceives people is by depicting in movies, plays and books, that evil has more power than good. Is this true? Of course not. Notice who cried out in terror, the two demon possessed men. Evil was terrified by good. These demons who possess these men knew that Jesus Christ had absolute authority over them, even to the point that they somehow knew they would be tormented eternally. The Lord Jesus cast the demons out of these men and freed them from the incredible torment of the devil. The Lord Jesus had absolute authority over the demons and the Lord gave us authority over them too.
